How many of us started on these?

Those good fellas at Tri-Ocean Surf in South Devon have got them in stock!

Now these are far from being high performance mats but here are my top tips:

1) Buy the junior. The junior is adult side and the adult is gorilla size!

2) Ride it backwards. The rounded nose gives hold and the square tail slips. Think about a 4GF Tracker Round Tail and it all becomes clear.

3) This one is optional but you can use a hair dryer to get the handles off but BE CAREFUL NOT TO LET THE HEAT HIT THE I-BEAMS OR SEAMS!!! Redbacks are glued, not welded and the glue that holds the handles is the same stuff. The handles can help keep the tail being knocked out from under you but you need to watch your nads.

Get yours here:

Have fun kids!

Don't confuse these with Tiki mats. The Tikis have a valve on each side meaning they are inflated in 2 halves and air can't transfer throughout the whole mat. Pretty ridiculous design.

The Redback is a proper surfmat, although a very basic and dated one.

I found that it just caused drag without much real hold. Just cavitated. Best to get the feckin things off I say.

Here's a bit of an update on Rebacks, which we sell in our wonderful ONLINE STORE[cool]

I've had a return so took the opportunity to take a look at her. It seems that the manufacturers have taken a step into the modern age and now weld rather than glue their mats. That does suggest improved durability.

They have also started to weld the handles into the deck of the mat meaning you can no longer get the buggers off. [frown]

Ho hum...

They've also replaced the bung with an armband style valve on the deck. Boooooooo!

Anyway, this return has a slow leak but is fine to ride so I suggest we wreck it. [smile]

Once did a 50 foot dive into a lake in Finland with one of these with some Romanies. The mat survived but I landed legs akimbo, came out of the water looking like Neil Tennant with backless chaps.Had to ride to nearest Ikea and buy some kids pantaloons(adults size too big for me there.).They were made from thin sweatshirt material though, and made me appear permanently priapic.
Great.
I'm up for Sawing the handles off and running the Carrick Roads.
