"We live in a democracy," he says. "You shouldn't restrict who can own a home."

Typical BBC 'Man on the Clapham Omnibus' device. I'm sure they could have found better vox pops than this [rofl]

Can't help thinking that the locals lost the war against the market twenty or more years ago. Markets exist to benefit investors and nobody else, this is why the government has been bailing them out with billions in public money. Those who sell their labour pay whilst those who buy it just get richer.

Will I vote? Really that depends on whether I can tear myself away from sharing cat memes on snapchat for ten minutes.

Unfortunately it's the same the country over lack of housing forcing prices up huge amount of foreign money in university towns and city's with the thing of my little poppet requires a place to live in Oxbridge so we buy something for 3 years and there chums can rent and pay the mortgage and then let's leave it running and look another add to the portfolio.
Sorry a bit cynical but it what happens and hey all of a sudden you are living in an area that has higher prices than London per head, and there is no way your kids will get on the ladder, old story of supply and demand, to many university's and to high aspirations for so many who should not go to university but it keeps figures for the government looking good ... Not so many on the dole!
Sorry bit of a rant there.
Totally understand the St Ives view I watched the demise of villages in the late 70s and 80s for the same reason, holiday homes.
But what is the answer?
